A Separation

Commentary

Tragedy, in the modern sense, is not any one person’s fault, but the consequence of a series of chain reactions. Farhadi’s film is a powerful example of this, in which a legal and physical separation between husband and wife sets many dominoes tumbling, most of them unforeseen. Like a Chekov play, the universality of human emotions shines through. See Notes for important information.
