The creators started with a basic premise—a chemistry teacher who has cancer starts making meth for money and discovers he’s really good at it—and wound up creating the quintessential antihero for our time. Breaking Bad impresses on all levels of plot, character, cinematography, music, and suspense—and then the prequel Better Call Saul tops even that. Ultimately these are meditations on the nature of good and evil, but highly entertaining too.
