Drawing Power: Women’s Stories of Sexual Violence, Harassment, and Survival/A Comics Anthology

Commentary

The title hits on three different meanings: the power of drawing itself (these stories are by female artists and are told in comic book format); illustrating the dynamics of power and how it plays out; and taking power from the act of narrating and depicting sexual assault narratives. The 60+ stories collected here vary in all ways: in length, in tone, in style of artwork, in chronology, in location. The cumulative effect proves the point that everyone’s story is unique, and there is no one right way to be and move through the world—especially after surviving something as impactful as a sexual trauma.
