Is Rape a Crime? A Memoir, an Investigation, and a Manifesto
Bowdler, Michelle
Medium:
Book
Commentary
Michelle Bowdler did not ask to become an activist for sexual assault survivors. However, after her own attack and the horrendous treatment she experienced at the hands of Boston police in the 1980’s, she has made it her life’s work to fight for victims. Bowdler balances the personal and the practical very effectively, demonstrating how one’s personal experience can fuel informed advocacy and push for changes in culture and law. She is also not afraid to call BS when she sees it, and her quick comebacks to legal and political nonsense are clarifying and energizing.
