The only concept album I know of that actually works. Tempest depicts seven different strangers on the same night at the same time in London, united perhaps by their loneliness. While filling out their backstories, Tempest also calls out an economy gone amok and a society gone mad. Tempest’s spoken word achievement features excellent wordplay, varied musical genres, and a grand finale (“Tunnel Vision”) which is both stirring and wrenching all at once. Because of its coherence, best listened to in one sitting, reading the lyrics at the same time.
