Nineteen episodes, just one season—but oh, what a season it was. In her first major role, a young Claire Danes plays a quintessential suburban teenage girl. (As a former resident, I found the depiction of late 80’s/early 90’s white suburbia to be 100% accurate.) “Good girl” Angela Chase has now befriended “bad girl” Rayanne Graff, and while she is adored from afar by nerd/neighbor Brian Krakow, she finds herself more attracted to bad-boy hunk Jordan Catalano (Jared Leto). Uncommonly wise for prime-time TV, with all of the characters, including the parents, being fully fleshed out and complex. I encourage families of teens to watch this show together.
