Alice and Martin Provensen were a husband and wife team who lived on a farm in upstate New York and illustrated many children’s books together. While many of these books are nothing short of delightful, I selected this one as a starting point because it takes the time to lovingly but accurately describe the personalities of all the animals on their farm. The Provensens’ fondness for their animals is palpable, and it makes one wonder what the world would be like if we all took the time to attend to each other just as carefully.
