It all began when bassist Alan Slutsky wanted to write a music book for other bassists, and so he went out to find the original bassist (James Jamerson) whose Motown grooves he loved. Next thing he new, Slutsky realized that the house band for all the great Motown hits (collectively known as the Funk Brothers) were incredible musicians—and virtually unknown.
