Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)

The white version of the 1960’s always references Woodstock as a cultural touchstone. But what if it turns out there had been a “Black Woodstock” as well—that everyone promptly forgot about? Kudos to Questlove for seizing the opportunity via this documentary to rescue the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival—which went on for several weekends!— from obscurity. Naturally, the soundtrack is also phenomenal.
