The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows

Commentary

What started as a website turned into a book as well. Koenig has made up a bunch of words that speak to very specific situations and obscure emotions. His confected etymologies are very clever, and the definitions can be spot on, funny, sad, or all of the above. Koenig was born in America but grew up in Europe, and so his definitions (some of which are extended mini-essays) frequently have a wistful, existential tone to them. There is also corresponding artwork which is equally evocative. Note to reader: I will turn this book into a screenplay someday.
