Commentary

Frank Ostaseski is a cofounder of Zen Hospice, a nonprofit that provides comfort to the dying (and was formed in the midst of the AIDS epidemic in San Francisco). After decades of witnessing thousands of deaths, Ostaseski reflects on how engaging with the fact of our own deaths in the future can invite us in five different ways to live a better life in the present. His humanity and compassion infuse the book, and his anecdotes model how to accept that which is ugly, painful, scary, and imperfect. See Note below.
