The Thin Blue Line

Commentary

It is a cliché now for repetitive minimalist music to be scored in soundtracks for movies. In this important documentary, however, the score fits perfectly. Errol Morris investigates a murder, and with each successive piece of information, the story of what happened that night gets retold slightly differently (just like Philip Glass’ arpeggios). There have been many investigative documentaries since that have wound up with real life consequences; this is perhaps one of the first of such documentaries in the modern era.
