Medium:
TV Series
Commentary
Based on a true story and a book of the same name. The title has two meanings, both equally important to the story: when a (female) sexual assault survivor went to the police, the (male) cops found her story to be unbelievable; and what happened next was equally unbelievable (and not in a good way). Toni Collette and Merrit Wever are fantastic as the detectives who take up the case, as is Kaitlyn Dever as the protagonist. This show depicts— in starkest terms—the difference between typical police investigations and a more humane, emotionally intelligent, and trauma-informed approach.
