Wherever You Go, There You Are

Commentary

Jon Kabat-Zinn was the first medical doctor in America to implement meditation as a medical health practice. His book Full Catastrophe Living is the foundational text for practicing mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). His second book, however, is something else altogether. While there is a section on the hows and whys of meditation, the book is more of an introduction to mindfulness in general. Kabat-Zinn uses simple, clear anecdotes to illustrate acceptance, letting go, being present, challenging judgments, and other mindfulness themes. He also connects contemporary meditation practices with the American literary traditions of the Transcendentalists. This was my introduction to mindfulness, and it can be yours too. See Note below.
