In graphic novel format Rodriguez vividly depicts the terrors of growing up in Communist Cuba and how he was able to survive and become an artist in America. It is enjoyable to see someone take the Communist art style and turn it against itself. The trajectory of Rodriguez’s political cartoons in America also give the ending of the book special relevance.
